Joe Lack

Biography

Joe Lack is a seasoned trial attorney at Engstrom, Lipscomb & Lack, representing clients in construction defect, insurance bad faith, personal injury, product liability, and wildfire litigation. Over the course of his career, he has recovered more than $65 million for wildfire victims, establishing himself as one of the firm's leading advocates for individuals and families affected by catastrophic fires across California.

Since joining the firm in 2007, Joe has played a key role in litigating many of California’s largest wildfire cases, including:

  • Witch Creek, Guejito & Rice Fires (San Diego, 2007)
  • Sayre Fire (Los Angeles, 2008)
  • Jesusita Fire (Santa Barbara, 2009)
  • Bernardo Fire (San Diego, 2014)
  • Thomas Fire (Ventura, 2018)
  • Woolsey Fire (Los Angeles, 2018)

He currently represents victims of the Palisades and Pasadena Fires from January 2025.

Mr. Lack is widely recognized for his use of cutting-edge technology to streamline case management, improve client communication, and deliver cost-effective litigation solutions. His approach blends aggressive legal advocacy with operational efficiency—ensuring clients receive sophisticated representation and clear, responsive support throughout complex cases.

Beyond wildfire litigation, Joe maintains an active construction defect practice, representing residential and commercial property owners in matters involving structural failures, water intrusion, mold, and building code violations. He also handles high-stakes personal injury, product liability, and insurance bad faith claims, having secured favorable outcomes in both mass tort settlements and trial verdicts.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Lack gained valuable experience through several distinguished internships. He participated in oral hearings and administrative proceedings during his time at the Massachusetts State Capitol. In 2003, he interned for a United States Senator in Washington D.C., supporting work on the Judiciary, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations committees.

Joe’s international background enriches his legal practice. During his undergraduate years at Loyola Marymount University, he lived in Beijing studying Mandarin, cultural studies, and business law. He also lived in Munich, studying German—experiences that provide him with valuable global perspective and cross-cultural fluency.

Outside the courtroom, Joe enjoys traveling, attending football and UFC events, exploring California wine country, and road-tripping with his dog.
